About Us
The Mission:

  • To teach students how to read music, sing and play an instrument.  The ability to read music will empower students with the gift of musical expression to engage with the world, provide healing/catharsis for trauma, and be employable.

  • To produce the sacred genre of music with vocals and instruments.  

  • To fill the void in the market of classically arranged and performed sacred music.

  • To offer another form of spiritual meditation and generate visions of hope and healing in the souls of all people.

Vision:

  • To engage people in the richness of the creative arts so they may find their passion, explore their dreams and re-imagine their cultural heritage.  The institute envisions a place where participants can learn and explore the magic and wonders of the language of the performing arts.

  • The HCB Institute for the Arts’ educational philosophy is based on the belief that the quality of our collective future is dependent on awakening our youth to their fullest potential.  As we face the challenges of xenophobia in the 21st century, there is no nobler calling than to teach youth how to live, learn and work together in peace and understanding.

Why we exist:

  • Many public schools have discontinued cultural enrichment from their curriculum and it has hurt many students who have a talent and gift that needs to be nurtured.  The HCB Institute for the Arts founders have a 70-year legacy of music they want to share with the next few generations of youth, adults and seniors.  We exist to enrich, educate, excite and motivate through the performing arts.

  • We wish to honor our late parents, Rev. and Mrs. James B. Bass, who made the ultimate sacrifices to give us the best home, education, bible teachings, music discipline and “hard work” ethic possible.  Proverbs 22:6, King James Version of the Holy Bible, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Who we will serve:

  • Our association with our church affiliations, education institutions, networking associations and community involvement are recruitment channels that allow us to serve 40 students with music lessons in our first year.  Dr. Ruth Bass Green is currently teaching 14 students from ages 5 to 60.

Accomplishments:

  • 2013 – CD “Spirituals:  Reflection and Meditation” featuring Dr. Ruth Bass Green on piano was produced by Billy Mitchell Productions under the VISTA Record Label.  CD is available for purchase on CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com.edu/drruthbassgreen or by contacting Connie Bass at music@hcbinstituteforthearts.org.

  • February 22, 2014 – CD release and signing by Dr. Ruth Bass Green held at the Windsor Hills Christian Book Store in Los Angeles, CA.

  • February 23, 2014 – The First Annual Bass Sisters Music Concert, honoring our parents and celebrating 2014 Black History Month, was held at the Congregational Church of Christian Fellowship.

  • June 1, 2014 – Bass Family Chorale presented a concert at Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) USA.

  • July 2014 – CD:  “Hymns” by Bishop Charles Price Jones, D.D., L.L.D. Twelve (12) of the over one thousand (1,000) hymns composed by Bishop Jones were recorded by Lois Bass Edwards on piano and Dr. Ruth Bass Green on organ.  The CD was produced by Billy Mitchell under the VISTA Record Label.  Bishop Jones was the Founder of the Church of Christ (Holiness) USA.

  • July 25, 2014 – Dr. Ruth Bass Green was presented in concert by the Church of Christ (Holiness) USA Sunday School & HYPU Congress at the Rainier B. Wilson Fellowship Graduate Recognition Dinner in Atlanta, GA.  She was joined by her sister, Lois Bass Edwards, on two selections performed from the “Hymns” CD.

  • November 3, 2014 – Dr. Ruth Bass Green was interviewed by her Jefferson High School fellow student, Marshall Wilkerson, on www.haranbeeradio.com .  The CD – “Spirituals:  Reflections and Meditation” was played in its entirety.

  • November 23, 2014 – Dr. Ruth Bass Green presented her students in the Ninth Annual Recital of the Hazelle Catherine Bass Institute for the Arts at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, MA.

  • February 22, 2015 – Second Annual Bass Family and Friends Black History Concert was presented at Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) USA.

  • November 22, 2015 – Dr. Ruth Bass Green presented her students in the Tenth Annual Recital of the Hazelle Catherine Bass Institute for the Arts at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, MA.

  • January 31, 2016 – Third Annual Bass Family and Friends Black History Concert was presented at Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) USA

  • November 20, 2016 - Dr. Ruth Bass Green presented her students in the Eleventh Annual Recital of the Hazelle Catherine Bass Institute for the Arts at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, MA.

  • January 29, 2017 – Fourth Annual Bass Family and Friends Black History Concert was presented at Christ  Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) USA

  • November 19, 2017 – Dr. Ruth Bass Green presented her students in the Twelfth Annual Recital of the Hazelle Catherine Bass Institute for the Arts at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, MA.

  • January 28, 2018 – Fifth Annual Bass Family and Friends Black History Concert was presented at Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) USA

  • November 25, 2018 – Dr. Ruth Bass Green presented her students in the Thirteenth Annual Recital of the Hazelle Catherine Bass Institute for the Arts at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst, MA

  • January 31, 2019 – Sixth Annual Bass Family and Friends Concert was presented at Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) USA
